Hi,
We're getting an occasional loss of power, and if you stay on the throttle long enough (a few seconds), everything snaps back to life as if I flipped a switch. Checking for codes I get code P0219, which is for the crankshaft position sensor sensing an overspeed. I believe this to be the source of the power loss, but thought I'd check here to see if that sounds reasonable. Is replacement of the sensor (if that's the problem) a fairly simple job for a backyard mechanic like me?
Also getting code P1693 DTC Detected in Companion JTEC Mod. Any clue as to what that means? I have been running an Edge EZ for years with no problem - is this a possible source of the code?

Thanks for those links, Troy. I'll take the truck to one of the local shops to pull the companion codes. Hope it's something simple! Incidentally, the CEL never came on.
BTW, I pulled the Edge module out just to eliminate it as a possible source and ran an 80-mile round trip last night problem free. Wonder if the module may have a problem? |

More great info, Troy - thanks!
Getting a bit scared in that I've never seen more than about 12 PSI on my fuel pressure gauge. Hope my VP-44 isn't dying on me. Had a local diesel wonk tell me that my readings, between 7 and 12 PSI, should be fine. I've been planning on a FASS or similar setup, sounds like I need to get to it quickly if I have any hope of saving the VP-44.
Incidentally, the local shops like Pep Boys and Auto Zone tell me they can't read the Cummins-specific codes. They all tell me I have to take it to either a dealer or a Cummins specialty shop to read companion codes beyond the DTC indications. |
