Im installing a Autometer 5inch tach in the truck and need to know how to get to the tach wire to the pcm...what color is it and where to find it. Has anyone done this before? I called Autometer and they said to tap in to the factory tach wire..it should work but I may need the tach adapter from Autometer. Any help would be appreciated!

I wanted a different tach because my seating position prevents me from seeing the tach and when i race, i like to have a clear view and looking down doesnt cut it when I need to look at the lights on the Christmas tree. I also like the looks of the larger tach...if done right they look good. It mounted and looks good. All wires are hooked up and running ...just need the one wire now.

I began looking at all the wires in the computer plugs and found the right one. Yellow wire with the red stripe is the tach signal wire. The new tach works great! The nice part is, the factory tach works at the same time and is in perfect sync with the AutoMeter 5 inch tach. Looks great and a bit intimidating to some other drivers. I just like to be able to see without looking down.
