I don't use synthetic so for me it's Castrol.... has been for 15 yrs now. As far as a filter.... I get the napa gold or sometimes purolator.

There's as many opinions as there are people...
My preference has become Royal Purple oil and Baldwin filters

Havoline 10-30 and NAPA filters.

180K, change oil every 2500 miles. Never add a drop between changes.

Clean oil is good oil I say.

Cenex Superlube TMS 15W-40 and Wix 51515s but the Wixes on mine leak so I may try Purolator next time.

Penzoil and Fram extra guard (tried the truck guard until I saw that it had poorer flow) 2500m changes or earlier if it colors, since I tow frequently.

May want to switch filters...
Fram is one of the worst in tests... uses cardboard end supports and they have been known to come apart and destroy engines...

Huh! I saw a flow study that was good, but not this. I have been using them since the early '80's with no problems. Guess they have gone cheap!

I luv K&N, may try to find a good deal there.

What's with the size thing? Is that supposed to apply to the Magnums?

I used to use Fram on everything until probably mid 80's sometime when Mobil came out with their filter... Then saw this test a few years ago and it confirmed what I had seen in the frams... they just started looking cheesier when you look thru the bottom into the filter... not as heavy duty as they used to be.
As to the size, the larger the filter, the more oil it can filter (higher flow) and the more it can pass before it goes into bypass... (stays filtering for more miles) I now use the Baldwin B114... get them from truck parts houses for about half the price of the K&N or Mobil 1...

The new Frams have a better design but I still fork out the extra money and get the K&N

On Dacooley's advice, I switched from K&N to Baldwin, less than half the money, and the same spec as K&N, less the nut on the bottom. If you need to use that nut, your filter was put on with the seal dry, it's been on too long, or you put it on too damn tight!!!!!! I can now change both my filters, with great quality(you can SEE the quality) for less than changing one K&N. Castrol Syntec 5W50 is my choice of oil.
